We are excited to announce that Huiying Cai has been awarded TIRF's 2025 Doctoral Dissertation Grant.

The International Research Foundation for English Language Education (TIRF) is an international, non-profit organization devoted to English language education. Each year, the foundation offers the Doctoral Dissertation Grant to help researchers complete their dissertations, especially work that has clear implications for educational policymakers and others in positions to make decisions about English language education practices.

Huiying has received the award for her dissertation research, Exploring a Feature-Based Explainable Automated Essay Scoring System for Local L2 Integrated Argumentative Writing Assessment,  under the direction of Dr. Xun Yan. TIRF notes that 'her research bridges computational linguistics and language assessment, aiming to enhance transparency, validity, and fairness in automated scoring for L2 learners.'

Congratulations to Huiying!
