OEAI TUTORS
The Oral English Assessment Interview (OEAI) tutors list is specifically for students who need to prepare for the OEAI, including those who need to fulfill their 10 hours in order to retake the OEAI. Tutors on this list are approved tutors for the OEAI. This test is for those who wish to be TAs at Illinois.
PRIVATE LANGUAGE TUTORS
The General ESL tutor listserv is useful for ESL students looking for general ESL tutors or editors. These tutors have degrees and/or extensive experience working with ESL learners. If you are looking for a general tutor or editor, please email your request to esltutors@lists.illinois.edu. All requests should include the following:
- Your contact information
- Your current status/level (Example: first-semester graduate student or tutor needed for 11 year-old daughter)
- A brief explanation of what your ESL needs are (example: research writing tutor, TOEFL tutor, conversation skills, editing a publication, etc.)
The ESL Writing Program will then review your request and, if approved, redirect it to a list of approved ESL tutors who can respond to your request. Your request will be sent to all approved tutors, so you might receive multiple responses. Interested students may then form service agreements with a tutor independently of UIUC. Any pay associated with these services is not affiliated with UIUC.
Prospective Tutors
If you wish to be added to the tutors list and offer your services to students, please contact eslprogram@illinois.edu. You will be asked to fill out an application and provide evidence of your qualifications as an ESL tutor.
A note for ESL instructors on the tutors lists: You may not tutor a student in the same semester that they are in your class. It poses a conflict of interest. You may however refer interested students to the list.
Writer's Workshop
The Writers Workshop, part of the Center for Writing Studies, provides free writing assistance for University of Illinois students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines and at all stages of the writing process.
