TESL Library

The TESL Library room (LCLB 3046) is a valuable resource for students and faculty of the Department of Linguistics. During the Fall and Spring semesters, the TESL Librarian hosts approximately ten hours each week for open library usage for study, collaboration, and book and equipment loaning.

Why reserve the TESL Library room

Beyond the regular open library hours, students and faculty in the Department of Linguistics may be interested in reserving the room for student conferences, group projects or meetings, or registered student organization meetings or events. Individual students may also be interested in reserving the room if they need to use computer software, like Camtasia, outside of regular Library Hours.

How to reserve the TESL Library room

  1. Reservations can be made during the current semester any time after the first day of classes. (Please note that reservations should not be requested before the start of a semester because Library Hours and ESL Staff meeting take priority and are made on the Friday before classes begin each semester).

  2. To begin the reservation process, first check the room availability in the LCLB 3046 Calendar in the SLCL Scheduler system. Jump to the date you want and check whether the room is available to reserve during your desired time period.

  3. Log in to the SLCL Scheduler system with your Illinois NetID and password and fill out the request form.

  4. Once you receive an email saying that you have successfully reserved the room, email the Linguistics Office Manager, Natalia Sakhartova (natalias@illinois.edu), to arrange a pick-up of the key within 48 hours of your reservation.

Important Guidelines for room usage

During your reservation time (and until you have returned the key), you are responsible for the TESL Library space and resources. Please keep the following in mind when using this space:

  • Always leave the space as you found it. Do not leave papers or food, etc. on the table.
  • You may look at books and other resources during your reservation time, but you may not remove any resources from the Library without the presence of the Librarian; all resources must be properly signed out with the Librarian.
  • To protect the resources and yourself from liability, you should never leave other people unattended in the library during or after your reservation time.
  • At the end of your reservation time, shut off the lights and lock the door.
