Earlier this month, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign hosted the 33rd Japanese/Korean Linguistics Conference (JK 33). The conference took place from August 6th -August 9th, and was attended by approximately 100 registered attendees from around the globe.
JK 33 brought together experts in Korean and Japanese Linguistics for four engaging and fascinating plenary talks:
- Dorothy Ahn (Rutgers University)
- Minju Kim (Claremont McKenna College)
- Daiko Takahashi (Tohoku University)
- Jae DiBello Takeuchi (Indiana University Bloomington)
Additionally, a pre-conference workshop was held, with presentations titled "An introduction to Japanese spoken corpora and tools," led by Michiko Kaneyasu (UCLA), Tsuyoshi Ono (University of Alberta), Yasuyuki Usuda (Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology), & Tomoko Endo (The University of Tokyo), and "Corpus Linguistics for Korean with Universal Dependencies", led by Gyu-Ho Shin (UIC) and Hakyung Sung (Uof Hawaii-Manoa).
The three conference days featured over 25 oral presentations and 30 poster presentations from renowned researchers exploring Korean and Japanese Linguistics from a variety of perspectives. The conference also included a banquet dinner at the Illini Union.
