Students come to SILMW for a variety of reasons: To connect with their heritage or ancestral language, to prepare for study or travel abroad, in order to conduct research

Wolof

Wolof is spoken by over 80% of the population of Senegal and is also spoken in The Gambia and Mauritania. It is the language of the Wolof people and is one of the principal languages of Africa.

Turkish

Turkish was the language of the Ottoman Empire, a superpower in the world between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries which ruled over much of Eastern Europe, the Near East, and the Mediterranea

Swahili

Swahili is spoken and understood by approximately 46 million people in large parts of East Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and parts of Somalia and the Congo.

Arabic

Arabic constitutes a kind of bridge between Africa and Asia: it is spoken by around 400 million people from Morocco to southern Iran and is one of the official languages of the United Nations.
