The major in linguistics may be combined with any of several certificate programs. These programs provide additional training which complements the major, and prepares you for practical work in a professional field. Successful completion of such a program results in a certificate in the selected area, serving as a credential for employment and adding weight to your résumé.
Certificate programs appropriate for students majoring in linguistics include at least:
- Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language
- Certificate in Translation Studies
- Certificate in Global Security
Typically, some or all of the courses taken as part of the certificate program are applied to the "Courses in Linguistically Relevant Areas" requirement for the linguistics major. However, courses taken under the LING rubric are not generally applicable to this requirement, even if part of a certificate program.
