The University of Illinois offers extensive training in the field of Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language at both the Undergraduate and Graduate Levels.  We've been teaching ESL here since 1947 and our MATESL program was founded in 1966.  We also offer a variety of options for study both on-campus and online. Prepares candidates to be professional leaders in classroom instructor, teacher preparation, curriculum and materials developer, program administrator, and for jobs in industry.

Provide training for teaching ESOL in non-public school settings, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Provides the endorsement needed for those wishing to teach ESL in the State of Illinois.

Provides Graduate Students with a Certificate in TESOL, giving them a strong background in the field, further strengthening their primary area of study and marketability.  This is also aimed at those off campus seeking to enter this field.
